Care and Maintaining Tips of a Refrigerator.

  • Put refrigerator in a position with good air circulation around it.
  • Locate refrigerator away from heat sources such as radiators or sunny windows, or the stove.
  • Never turn off the electricity for any length of time while there is food inside the refrigerator. The food can go bad and leave unpleasant odors in your refrigerator.
  • Keep refrigerator clean, both inside and outside
  • Do not put hot food in a refrigerator, as this will raise the temperature of the air inside, leading to lower efficiency.  Besides, the frost around the outside of the freezing cabinet will form more rapidly, and defrosting will have to be done more frequently.
  • Cover all foods to keep them moist and fresh, and to prevent them from absorbing the odor and smell of other foods.
  • When going on long vacations, remove all food, unplug the refrigerator, clean thoroughly, dry and leave the door ajar so air can circulate.
  • For short vacations, leave refrigerator on, but use up or discard perishable food, and if you have an icemaker, turn off the mechanism and waterline following your manual directions.
  • Do not cram the refrigerators so full that cold air can't circulate freely to chill food.  This will block the circulation of cold air inside and prevent the refrigerator from working properly.
  • In model that needs defrosting, always unplug the refrigerator before defrosting,  Never use sharp objects, which could damage the evaporator coils,  Follow the manual instructions.
  • Clean refrigerator compartments regularly, even though the fridge does not require defrosting.
    • Turn it off and unplug before removing all food and removable interior parts
    • Follows your manual direction for cleaning the different plastic drawers, shelves, etc.
    • If you do not have a manual, use a mild detergent (dish washing liquid) and lukewarm water solution to clean the interior and exteriors parts.
    • Never use abrasive powder to wash your refrigerator.
  • Occasionally, brush the dust from the condenser, usually under the front bottom grille (see manual for location and directions).
  • Wash frequently the plastic pan that collects water discarded from automatic defrosting.
  • Wipe up spills in the refrigerator promptly to avoid staining.
  • Foods which should not be stored in the refrigerator include bananas, root and bulb vegetables like, potatoes and onions, bread and cakes.  It is also not necessary to keep eggs in the refrigerator.
